For two decades, our Tribal-led coalition has fought to stop the proposed Pebble Mine project from destroying Bristol Bay, Alaska. In January of 2023, EPA finally listened to our calls and vetoed the toxic mine. This historic victory paves the way for a more sustainable future and returns control of one of the last great watersheds left on Earth to the communities that have called this region home for thousands of years.

Today, Bristol Bay communities stand united and out of the shadow of the toxic Pebble Mine. But frivolous legal challenges and other large-scale mining projects still threaten the region’s future.

More work must be done to ensure Bristol Bay is fully protected — forever.
